Ce produit est un mélange complexe d'hydrocarbures obtenu par le traitement d'une fraction de pétrole par de l'hydrogène en présence d'un catalyseur. Il est constitué d'hydrocarbures ayant un nombre de carbone majoritairement compris entre C11 et C25, et possédant un point d'ébullition compris approximativement entre 205 °C et 400 °C (401 °F et 752 °F).
