Les poussières de Cèdre rouge sont un sous-produit de la transformation du bois de Cèdre rouge. Ce bois est utilisé dans un grand nombre de secteur d'activité. Il se retrouve notamment dans les secteurs :

  • des forêts et scieries
  • de la construction (bardeaux pour la toiture et le parement...)
  • de la fabrication de meubles
  • de la fabrication de produits en bois (portes, fenêtres...).

Auparavant, les déchets et les résidus comme les poussières issus de la filière bois étaient incinérés ou éliminés par enfouissement. Aujourd'hui, du fait des évolutions technologiques et règlementaires (notamment les Règlements sur l'enfouissement et l'incinération de matières résiduelles et sur l'assainissement de l'atmosphère), ils sont davantage mis en valeur grâce à plusieurs alternatives telles que le réemploi, le recyclage et la valorisation. 

La valorisation des résidus issus de la filière bois peut se faire soit comme une valorisation énergétique (biomasse...) soit comme une valorisation matière (compostage...).
