L'acrylamide sert à :

  • la production de polymères dont le polyacrylamide et de copolymères
  • la préparation in situ de gels de polyacrylamides pour l'électrophorèse dans les établissements de recherche, les universités et les hôpitaux
  • la fabrication de colorants et de lentilles de contact
  • la fabrication de coulis pour la construction de barrages, de tunnels, d'égouts...

Sous forme de polymère, l'acrylamide est utilisé entre autres : 

  • comme coagulant et floculant pour le traitement de l'eau potable et des eaux usées
  • dans le traitement du minerai
  • pour la production de pâte et papier
  • dans les procédés de récupération du pétrole
  • comme conditionneur de sol
  • dans l'industrie du textile notamment pour la fabrication de tissus à pressage permanent
  • dans les revêtements et les adhésifs
  • comme agent épaississant (latex...)
  • dans les plastiques et les matériaux d'emballage alimentaire
  • dans les cosmétiques.
